What you need to know
The Say Yes to Languages module is open for voluntary application for the 2026/2027 academic year, targeting 5th and 6th-class pupils. This initiative aims to prepare schools for the modern foreign language (MFL) requirements introduced in the redeveloped Primary School Curriculum.
The programme requires 10 hours of tuition (e.g., one hour weekly) during either Term 1 or Term 2. Schools can choose any foreign language or Irish Sign Language (ISL) based on pupil demographics and teaching capacity. The module can be delivered by an existing staff member (which guarantees programme inclusion) or an external visiting tutor.
Successful schools receive grant funding directly into their bank accounts. First-time participating schools receive €500 per classroom, while funding for reapplying schools decreases by 20% each year (e.g., €400 per class in 2026/2027). If an existing teacher delivers the module, part of this funding must be used for their foreign language upskilling. You must apply via the online Application Form by 5pm on 27th April 2026.
